Junior Emergency Nurse Practitioner
The Emergency Department / Urgent Treatment Centres at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital, London, are looking to recruit a highly motivated Trainee Emergency Nurse Practitioner to join our cross‑site urgent treatment centres (Guys Hospital and St Thomas Hospital). The role is based at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity including bespoke in‑house training and supervised practice.
The successful applicant must be flexible to work across all areas of the Emergency Floor and work as a Trainee ENP.
This autonomous post works within parameters to treat patients presenting with minor injuries and minor illness conditions. The position is part of a 24‑hour ENP service, and emergency department experience is essential.

Main duties of the job- Act as an autonomous practitioner in the care and management of patients with minor injuries and minor illnesses.
- Provide specialist advice on minor injuries to patients and the multidisciplinary team.
- Act as an expert resource and facilitator to educate and train staff and students, providing specialist care.
- Develop communication pathways with key stakeholders including outside agencies and commissioners.
- Participate in the development of practice and contribute to ongoing clinical practice, research and standards of care.
- Accountable for own specialist professional practice.
- Contribute to the development of policies, protocols, guidelines and service developments with multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Ensure the safety and well‑being of service users, promoting dignity and human rights through person‑centred care principles.
- Work autonomously, accountable within band 6 ENP parameters while functioning as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Assess and recognise emergencies, interpret information, take appropriate action and lead others.
- Advocate for patients, ensuring a patient‑orientated approach and meeting NHS Plan standards.
- Ensure high quality clinical care and good patient experience respecting customs and religious beliefs.
- Co‑ordinate the provision of specialist services within the hospital and community, liaising with multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Provide specialist knowledge and advice in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
- Correctly administer prescribed medication, including blood transfusion.
- Disseminate specialist knowledge locally and nationally; publish findings and participate in networking.
- Maintain patient records and confidentiality.
- Organise personal work and manage caseload, supporting colleagues and running a cost‑effective service.
- Provide cover for other Clinical Nurse Specialists.
- Develop policies, protocols, guidelines and administer directives within Trust HR policies.
- Recruit, select and retain staff in cooperation with HR.
- Adhere to Trust and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain skill mix and monitor use of bank and agency staff.
- Maintain equipment, order supplies within financial resources.
- Ensure effective ENP cover and anticipate staff shortages.
- Post‑registration experience in Emergency Care or a related speciality/setting.
- Experience in using PGDs or prescribing.
- Mentoring and preceptorship experience.
- Experience managing clinical areas.
- Experience in change management.
- Experience managing people.
- Evidence of post‑registration professional development.
- Mentorship Course or equivalent.
- Intermediate Life Support Course.
- IRMER trained.
- Emergency Course (A&E course) or equivalent.
- Experience in streaming and triage with signed competencies.
- Application of plaster of Paris with signed off competencies.
- Management of wounds.
- X‑ray interpretation course.
- Suturing course with evidenced signed off competencies.
- Registered Nurse (Level
1).
