The post holder will work as an autonomous Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Medical Dermatology service, providing expert nursing care and specialist advice to patients with chronic inflammatory skin diseases.
The clinical nurse specialist will lead and support nurse-led services for patients receiving systemic therapies, biologic treatments and phototherapy. The role will involve holistic assessment, disease monitoring, patient education, therapeutic management, and coordination of care for patients with complex dermatological conditions including psoriasis, eczema, acne, hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), and other inflammatory skin disorders.
The post holder will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based, patient‑centred care across outpatient and day treatment settings.

Main duties of the job- Provide advanced dermatology care through autonomous nurse‑led clinics, delivering holistic assessment, treatment planning, and management for patients with complex skin conditions.
- Lead biologic, advanced therapy, and phototherapy services, including patient screening, education, monitoring, and follow‑up.
- Monitor patients receiving systemic immunosuppressants, interpret laboratory results, identify risks, and implement appropriate clinical actions in line with local protocols.
- Develop, implement, and audit clinical guidelines and protocols in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Manage an independent caseload, coordinate referrals, maintain accurate documentation, and contribute to clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
- Lead and participate in audit, research, and service evaluation activities to improve care quality and ensure compliance with local and national standards.
- Contribute to workforce development through teaching and training while maintaining professional competence through continuing professional development and evidence‑based practice.
- Registered Nurse RGN / RN with NMC
- Degree level qualification in Nursing or relevant healthcare subject
- Mentorship program / teaching and assessing qualification
- Recognised Post registration qualification in dermatology Nursing
- Independent Nurse Prescriber (V300) or willingness to work towards
- MSc. Degree in relevant clinical field
- Relevant specialist clinical skills
- Phototherapy course with proven experience of working autonomously
- Ability to initiate, monitor patients on biologics and systemics and able to interpret blood results
- Clinical assessment skills
- Skills in caring for patients
- Established organisational and leadership skills
- Ability to establish effective communication with patients and colleagues
- Innovative, able to problem solve and make autonomous decisions
- Teaching skills in informal and formal situations
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to implement new practices and initiatives
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to inspire and motivate teams
- Able to work flexibly in order to meet changing needs of the service
- Significant experience working in the field of dermatology
- Experience of working as a CNS
- Broad clinical experience relevant to the post
- Specialist skills and experience in the speciality
- Experience of conducting research and utilising research in practice
- Undertaking Nurse‑Led Service
- Expert knowledge of dermatology care and current treatments
- Knowledge and understanding of health care needs in a multicultural society
- Up to date knowledge of NICE and other national guidelines
- Insight into the nursing needs of the people with skin conditions
- Understanding of the role of a Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Understanding and demonstration of the Trust Values
- Commitment and adherence to equality, diversity and inclusion
