Job Overview

The Endoscopy Unit at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital is looking to recruit a Band 3 Nursing Assistant for part‑time and full‑time permanent positions.

Applicants should have previous experience working with adults in an Endoscopy or similar environment, GCSEs in Maths and English (grades 9‑4 or equivalent) and an NVQ Level 3 in healthcare or willingness to work towards this. The successful applicant will have drive, passion, excellent communication and people skills. The unit is open 08:00‑18:00 Monday–Sunday, including bank holidays, and provides services for both out‑patients and in‑patients including Endoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy, Bronchoscopy, EBUS, PEG insertions, ERCP, EUS and EMR.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the registered nurse in providing skilled and considerate care during patient admission.
  • Undertake safe monitoring of patients during endoscopic procedures, taking into account their specific needs and providing reassurance.
  • Provide patient care and monitor vital signs during recovery to ensure safe discharge.
  • Prepare equipment and environment to enable procedures to be carried out safely and to a high standard; ensure procedure rooms are ready with all necessary equipment.
  • Provide physical and emotional support to patients undergoing procedures, maintaining dignity at all times.
  • Assist with maintaining stock levels.
  • Assist with maintaining departmental cleanliness according to cleaning checklists.
