Main duties
  • Deliver paediatric and adolescent diabetes care as a registered paediatric diabetes specialist nurse.
  • Support children and young people (0‑19 years) with diabetes technology, including Hybrid Closed Loop pumps.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to improve diabetes care standards.
  • Provide teaching, mentoring and clinical supervision to staff and students.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date patient records and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Person specification Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (Child Branch) with first‑level NMC registration.
  • Degree level education (or equivalent).
  • Completed or currently undertaking a master’s degree or module with a diabetes component.
Experience
  • Significant post‑registration experience nursing children and young people.
  • One year (or more) as a specialist diabetes nurse at Band 6 level.
  • Leadership and management experience, and experience working with a multidisciplinary team.
Skills and Abilities
  • Collaborative and autonomous working within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Patient caseload management and workload prioritisation.
  • Leadership and coordination of clinical care teams.
  • Self‑motivated, enthusiastic and capable of continuous professional development.
Communication
  • Effective verbal and written communication with different disciplines within an MDT.
  • Competent use of electronic communication formats.
Personal and People Development
  • Evidence of up‑to‑date professional development.
  • Experience as a preceptor, facilitator or mentor.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and support others.
