HDU Recovery Lead Nurse

A HDU / Recovery Lead Nurse opportunity has arisen in this reputable private hospital. The appointed person will be responsible for the day to day operational management of the HDU and Recovery units. They will be accountable for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating high quality post anaesthetic and critical care, as well as leading the team, managing resources and ensuring compliance with CQC and IHS standards.

Salary and Benefits
  • £40,000 to £44,900 per annum, depending on experience/skill set.

Requirements
  • Registered Nurse (UK NMC).
  • Teaching/mentorship qualification and a recognised postgraduate critical care qualification.
  • Experience in the role of Recovery Nurse and within the critical care environment.
  • Experience in the independent healthcare sector and undertaking clinical audit/s.
  • Competence in delivering a high level of critical care and post anaesthetic care.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for practice.
  • Excellent organisational skills and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good computer and numeracy skills.
  • Able to time‑manage and prioritise care/duties and direct others to do the same.
Duties
  • Manage and lead the unit on a continual basis, providing support to the Duty Managers, Ward Managers and Theatre Suite.
  • Provide supervision and support to the team.
  • Deliver an outreach service to the ward, offering support and guidance in the care of the acutely unwell patient.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of individualised, safe, effective and evidence‑based patient care.
  • Ensure a welcoming, caring and safe environment for patients and their families.
  • Undertake the Duty Manager role.
  • Work closely with the Consultant Users of the Ward.
  • Participate in presenting and delivering teaching sessions for clinical staff.
  • Mentor staff and conduct performance review appraisals.
  • Undertake risk assessments in accordance with hospital policies, procedures and standards and national regulations.
  • Collaborate with Critical Care Fellows to ensure rota coverage and escalated unresolved issues.
  • Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate a high level of critical care for patients.
  • Provide a high level of post anaesthetic care for patients within the Theatre Recovery Room.
  • Work with the Anaesthetic team to deliver high‑quality, safe patient care.
  • Participate in on‑call rota and internal rotation of shift (including night duty).
  • Provide initial urgent or emergency care as required.
