We are looking for an experienced nurse with an interest in Trauma and General Surgery nursing who is keen to contribute to a thriving team in a Major Trauma hospital.

Katherine Monk Ward is a dedicated 26 bed Trauma Ward. The ward caters for patients with significant multi-system injuries that need coordinated multi-disciplinary care. The ward provides specialist trauma care to the patients of South‑East London and beyond.

We are seeking highly motivated, compassionate and enthusiastic senior nurses to join the team as a Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse. You must demonstrate experience in a trauma or surgery setting; have a positive attitude, show professionalism, integrity, determination and dedication. Leadership experience or training, as well as experience in developing others is desirable, but further training opportunities will be available to successful applicants.

The success of the nursing team on Kathrine Monk stems from our strong multi-disciplinary teamwork; supporting and empowering each other to achieve positive patient outcomes. You must have the ability to promote patient‑centred care and establish good relationships with staff, patients and carers. Suitable candidates will be expected to communicate effectively at all levels within the multi‑disciplinary team and be able to support both the Ward Leader and the nursing team in the delivery of high quality care and the general daily running of the ward.

Main

duties of the job
  • You will be providing a high standard of nursing care to emergency admissions, pre‑ and post‑operative patients, ICU step‑downs and patients requiring rehabilitation. These patients require close monitoring and may require escalation to the team.
  • You must be able to communicate effectively to provide a safe and effective handover, ensuring our patients receive good continuity in their care.
  • You should maintain your own personal development with support and guidance from our Practice Development team.
  • You will be expected to supervise and teach junior members of the team and students, encouraging them to seek out their own learning opportunities and helping them to achieve these.
  • You must have a pro‑active approach to managing a demanding workload, champion patient safety and dignity, and strive for continuous improvement within our service.
  • You will be responsible for safe medication administration, ensuring compliance with our clinical governance framework and maintaining confidentiality when providing patient care.
  • You will support the Ward Leader with the daily running of the ward, assisting with risk management, quality assurance and service improvement.
