An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Band 6 Staff Nurse to join our friendly and dynamic team on the Philip Isaac Day Ward.

The Philip Isaac Day Ward is a busy 6 bedded, nurse-led paediatric day unit providing high-quality care for children and young people. We care for patients requiring treatment for sickle cell disease, asthma, allergies, gastrointestinal conditions requiring infusions, and oncology patients receiving bolus infusions.

We are looking for a compassionate and highly motivated children's nurse with excellent clinical knowledge, strong organisational skills and outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities. You will be confident in leading a team, making sound clinical decisions and coordinating the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care within a fast-paced environment. You will also have opportunities to contribute to service improvement initiatives, support quality improvement projects and help shape the future development of the unit.

Main

duties of the job
  • To assist in the delivery of a expert nursing service for people with specialist needs
  • To provide expert nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through treatment
  • To ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence based nursing care, assessing health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families and other carers
  • To manage own patient caseload under supervision
  • To assist in the delivery of a seamless service through Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) processes and communication
  • To ensure care is given in accordance with agreed protocols.
  • To follow‑up patients under supervision as appropriate and ensure all relevant information is available to enable patients to make an informed choice about their treatment
  • To liaise with the ward staff to ensure appropriate and timely transfer/discharge/follow‑up arrangement are in place for patients
  • To adhere to the mechanisms for MDT referrals to the Clinical Nurse Specialists
  • To act as a resource person to others, providing accurate information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients and their relatives.
Job responsibilities
  • To adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to this at all times.
  • To demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of any patients receiving treatment in the ward/department
  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients on the Ward on an ongoing basis, co‑ordinating the care given by all members of the clinical team.
  • To accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information about the patients condition, promptly report changes and instigate remedial action as appropriate.
  • To act as a resource person to others, providing accurate information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients and their relatives.
  • To ensure that accurate records are maintained reflecting both changes in the patients condition and the treatment delivered.
  • To ensure that patients and their relatives are updated regularly with accurate information, and ensure that this is presented in a way that they understand.
  • To ensure that Clinical Guidelines are implemented and to be actively involved in auditing practice in conjunction with Line Manager and practice development staff.
  • To ensure that practice is evidence based and with support assist in the development of policies and protocols within the clinical area.
  • To uphold high standards of nursing care, according to existing policies and standards.
