Job overviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed, highly skilled and enthusiastic Band 7 Charge Nurse / Sister to lead the Medical Day Unit in Chelsea. The post holder will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operational management of the unit, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, safe and effective patient care. The successful candidate will have excellent clinical skills with significant experience in a chemotherapy day unit setting, strong leadership abilities and a proactive, flexible approach.
They will act as a clinical role model, promote effective multidisciplinary team working, support staff development and contribute to service improvement and patient experience.
- To create and maintain a safe, therapeutic clinical environment for all patients and their families who come to the area. To co‑ordinate all functions and activities proactively within the designated clinical environment.
- To manage resources of clinical area within budgetary limitations eg. finance, equipment and staff (including temporary staff).
- To provide strong clinical leadership of the nursing and support workers that is motivating, supportive and sets clear boundaries resulting in high quality safe patient care.
- To support a clinical learning environment that enables nursing staff to develop professionally and promotes the use of evidence in practice.

Job Description and
Person Specification:
- Manage a co‑ordinated day care nursing (chemotherapy and IV Services) service in liaison with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team maximising high quality patient care.
- To maintain clinical credibility through practice and to utilise the findings of nursing research and evidence‑based care to optimise high quality patient care.
- To monitor and review nursing practice regularly, participating in audits which must include documentation in accordance with Trust policy and NMC Guidelines.
- Within the framework of Team Nursing, to maintain the continuity of quality nursing care that responds flexibly to patients’ and carers’ needs and includes a pathway to the community or relevant care setting.
- Monitoring of trends and prevalence’s of clinical incidents according to the Trust’s Clinical Governance Guidance and Directives and develop strategies to prevent them reoccurring.
- NMC Registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Qualification in oncology or speciality Diploma or Degree level study (or equivalent)
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Recognised chemotherapy qualification
- Experience in intravenous drug administration
- Sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job
- Experience in systemic anti‑cancer treatment administration
- Experience in Clinical Management
- Evidence of relevant teaching experience
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical trials management
- Venepuncture and/or cannulation skills
