Job Overview

Join our established nursery nursing team on the postnatal ward as a Band 4 Maternity Grade Nurse, supporting families in the transition period after birth. You will deliver family‑centred care, coordinate with midwives and transitional care nurses, and contribute to the department’s Baby Friendly Initiative re‑accreditation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individualised care to babies requiring transitional care on the postnatal ward.
  • Assist families to develop confidence in caring for and feeding their babies before discharge through group and individual education sessions.
  • Support midwives and transitional care nurses to deliver safe, effective, family‑centred care.
  • Implement Baby Friendly Initiative standards in all aspects of the role.
  • Maintain accurate record‑keeping and documentation of care.
Person Specification Education
  • Level 3 Nursery Nursing/Child Care qualification (NNEB, BTEC or equivalent).
  • GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent).
Skills and Abilities
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Teamwork and good communication (written and verbal).
  • Good interpersonal and time‑management skills.
  • Use of own initiative and a flexible approach.
  • Awareness of role limitations and seeking guidance when appropriate.
  • Stress management and ability to remain calm under pressure.
Knowledge
  • Basic numeracy.
  • Knowledge of Baby Friendly Initiative standards.
Safeguarding
  • Familiarity with London Child Protection Procedures and multi‑agency safeguarding protocols.
  • Knowledge of reporting lines and relevant contact numbers.
  • Participation in mandatory safeguarding training and supervision.
  • Compliance with professional boundaries and codes of conduct.
