Clinical Practice Facilitator

Are you an experienced midwife with an interest in education and training? Do you want to contribute to and support the development of our newly qualified midwives?

37.5 hours (1wte) fixed term contract (24 months - limited funding)

This post is to work within the Maternity Education Team to deliver our education and training agenda, with specific responsibility for our supporting the development of our preceptorship programme. The post holder(s) will have the opportunity to build and enhance both their clinical and educational skills, and leadership experience.

The post holder(s) will support the Maternity Education team to maintain and continually improve the preceptorship programme ensuring it maintains the standards of the Trust, Capital Midwife accreditation and striving to achieve the National Midwifery award when it becomes available.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the maternity education team to support for both staff and learners.

  • Work within the Maternity Education team and Lead Midwives for Education and Workforce to support the development of our newly qualified and newly registered internationally educated midwives
  • Support staff in understanding and supporting learners within the clinical environment
  • Have a clinical presence within the Maternity department and work alongside those on the preceptorship programme to develop their confidence and competence
  • Ensure the UCH programme is inline with the Trust policy and National recommendations
  • Facilitate learning during Maternity training week alongside the Maternity Education Team
  • Undertake other duties relevant to banding to ensure Maternity services achieve their aims and objectives in providing safe and excellent care to women and service users
Job responsibilities
  • To lead and take responsibility for supporting our preceptorship midwives in conjunction with those who are internationally trained following NMC registration
  • To review preceptorship rotation mapping capacity and consider creative opportunities for development.
  • To create and facilitate an annual programme of training in line with the Trust Preceptorship policy.
  • Evaluate training and make necessary changes following evidence based educational models.
  • Working alongside newly qualified midwives to support and nurture them to ensure they build on the knowledge and skills acquired during their training to develop into confident and competent midwives.
  • The post holder will be expected to maintain a clinical profile whilst developing staff.
  • Develop a programme to support staff in developing skills as a Preceptor.
  • To promote and support the development of midwifery practice for all levels of midwifery staff.
  • Participation in the general in-house training activities of the Maternity Education team, including the monthly Maternity Mandatory Training Week.
  • To encourage staff in their professional development.
  • Support the orientation of new staff regarding their role and associated activities.
  • Responsible for coordinating Trust-wide development programmes in collaboration with the Lead Midwife for Education.
  • To develop appropriate policies, guidelines and strategies.
  • To work in conjunction with the midwifery teams to deliver on current issues related to midwifery including local, regional and national health agendas.
  • To promote and maintain effective communication by disseminating all relevant information, relevant to practice development.
  • To develop your own portfolio of educational and clinical interests.
  • To work within a multidisciplinary team, with senior midwives, the Clinical Practice Facilitators and others to develop midwifery practice.
Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Registered Midwife
  • Recognised leadership qualification or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of current issues in midwifery care and education
  • NLS/PROMPT Instructor
  • Recognised teaching qualification
Experience
  • Evidence of significant experience in midwifery practice and leadership
  • Experience in changing clinical practice
  • Experience of classroom teaching
  • Evidence of innovative practice that involves developing staff, teaching and assessing within the clinical area
  • Experience in reviewing or being involved in the review of serious clinical incidents
  • Evidence of participation in regional and national networks.
