Band 7 Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Neurology Epilepsy clinical team at the RFH as acute Epilepsy nurse specialist. We are looking for a nurse who has experience of working with people with Epilepsy or experience in neurology, ideally having worked as a clinical nurse specialist although induction, training and support will be provided according to their level of experience.

This is a part‑time (22.5 hours per week), fixed term 12 months post focusing on improving outcomes for people with epilepsy presenting to the emergency department. There is potential for extension.

The successful candidate will join a well‑established, experienced, and friendly neurology team. They are expected to work autonomously, will be well supported and supervised within their role and have the opportunity to develop management and service improvement skills.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will need to be innovative and active in improving patient pathways. They will have excellent communications skills and will be able to work collaboratively with members of the team.

As an Epilepsy Nurse Specialist, you will be working as an expert resource in Epilepsy providing support, advice and education. You will be working closely with patients, carers, neurologists, GP's, the wider multidisciplinary team and stakeholders across secondary and primary care. The role will include nurse‑led clinics, phone advice and emergency department referrals.

Education & Qualifications
  • Appropriate teaching certificate or extensive teaching experience
  • Evidence of recent professional / management / leadership development
  • Experience in Teaching
  • Experience in working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Proven ability to initiate audits/research and assess evidence
  • Knowledge and experience of practice and policy across a broad range of responsibilities e.g. financial systems & budgetary control, corporate and clinical governance, health and safety and human resources
  • Experience of motivating staff and improving individuals and team performance
  • Able to build rapport and credibility with senior clinical and managerial colleagues
  • Advance communication skills course
  • Non‑medical prescribing course or willingness to undertake
  • Experience in a senior nurse role in NHS setting or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience of leading significant change, delivering tangible and sustained improvement
  • Knowledge of developing business and workplans in line with future service requirements
  • Experience of managing employment relation issues
  • Experience in budgetary management

  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
