Overview

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is seeking a Theatre Circulating Assistant for the Main Theatres.

Closing date: 31 July 2026.

The role requires strong knowledge and experience in operating theatres and a clear understanding of perioperative patient needs. The ideal candidate is organised, has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and can supervise a multidisciplinary team to provide the highest standard of patient care across a varied caseload.

You must be motivated, enthusiastic, capable of working well under pressure, and flexible within a multidisciplinary team.

As a TCA, you will function effectively as part of the peri-operative team to ensure the delivery of an efficient and high-quality surgical service, fostering a welcoming, caring and safe environment and upholding Trust values.

Responsibilities
  • Assist and support patients undergoing surgery.
  • Help prepare a wide range of specialist equipment and other medical devices required during surgery.
  • Support Theatre Practitioners, position patients for surgery, conduct full swab, sarps and equipment checks.
  • Participate in the training and development of colleagues.
Person Specification Knowledge & Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent relevant experience / HSC Diploma level 3 Advanced / Higher apprenticeship level 3
  • Experience in an operating theatre or perioperative setting.
Experience
  • Experience in carrying out assigned duties / assisting qualified staff after training.
  • Team working experience.
  • Experience in a Health Care or related setting.
  • Good standard of written and spoken English.
Communication
  • Able to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks.
  • Able to deal with the public in person and on the phone.
  • Able to support and reassure patients/carers in distress.
Personal and People Development
  • Demonstrates understanding of own role within the team.
Health, Safety and Security
  • Understands importance of infection control.

Salary

£31,554 to £33,270 per annum, inclusive of HCAS.
