Theatre Practitioner (ANAESTHESIA)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic Registered Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) to join the Anaesthetic Team at UCH Main Theatres, one of the UK’s leading tertiary referral centres.

You will have the opportunity to work across a diverse and stimulating range of specialties including General Surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Bariatrics and Upper GI, Colorectal, Gynaecology, Urology, Oncology, Paediatrics, ENT, Maxillofacial, Vascular, Plastics/Breast, and Robotic Surgery. This breadth of practice offers excellent exposure and development in complex peri-operative care.

As an Anaesthetic Practitioner, you will bring sound knowledge and experience in peri-operative practice, with a strong understanding of peri-anaesthesia care. Applicants must be HCPC-registered ODPs or NMC-registered Nurses with a recognised and accredited post-graduate anaesthetic qualification.

You will be motivated, flexible, and committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care in a fast-paced environment. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in providing a safe, efficient, and responsive anaesthesia service, ensuring patients receive compassionate care in a welcoming and well-governed environment, in line with NMC/HCPC and CQC standards.

As an Anaesthetic Practitioner, you will play a vital role in supporting patients throughout their surgical journey, delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality peri-anaesthetic care. You will work closely with the anaesthetic and multidisciplinary theatre team to prepare, check, and manage a wide range of specialist equipment and drugs, including anaesthetic machines, intravenous therapies, and airway management devices.

You will contribute to the day-to-day running of the theatre unit, supporting safe patient flow and effective coordination of care. Working across a diverse patient population, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans, ensuring practice is evidence-based and aligned with Trust and professional standards.

In the absence of a Senior Anaesthetic Practitioner, you will be expected to support and supervise junior colleagues and unqualified staff, contributing to a positive learning environment and ensuring high standards of care are consistently delivered.
