The Senior Practice Development Nurse(Senior PDN) for critical careis responsible for developing and implementing an education and training strategy for ICU and CCOT services, in line with corporate and local initiatives and in collaboration with colleagues.

There are a number of key areas of focus:
- Provide excellent bedside education to the multi-disciplinary team within critical care.
- To have a strategic role in the promotion of advanced nursing and teaching skills within the trust.
- To aid the development of all of staff within critical care.
- To develop the provision of a developmental, educational and supportive environment.
- To lead on the development and implementation of in-house training programmes in relation to critical care for all staff.
- To provide critical care oversight to increase the uptake of critical care training to provide a robust resilient workforce to support critical care in a surge capacity.
- Along with the critical care matrons (ICU & CCOT) and lead nurse for critical care, actively participate and contribute to research and audit projects within the service.
- Support and contribute to the integration of critical care services as part of the hospital redevelopment, bringing about new ways of working.
- Facilitate development and implementation of standards, guidelines, protocols and pathways for patients requiring critical care.

- The post holder will undertake direct patient care within a clinical shift; role modelling to others within the unit and maintaining clinical skills.
- To provide professional advice to ICU staff, patients and families in relation to theorganisationand delivery of care.
- To assist in establishing, implementing and monitoring Trust guidelines, policies and protocols.
- To facilitate all senior staff in the production of clinical guidelines to produce a guideline.
