Staff Nurse - Paediatric Recovery Team

Job summary

We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a registered children's staff nurse to join the Paediatric Recovery Team within Child Health at Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a Band 5 Staff Nurse, you will work with the experienced recovery team on shift to deliver a high standard of care to paediatric patients in the post-operative period. Our recovery service is child and family centered and located within the theatre environment.

You will support a small team of experienced nurses to recover paediatric elective and emergency theatre cases within Child Health. This role will require acute airway management of children post-operatively and the rapid assessment of post-anaesthetic patients. You will be part of the core paediatric nursing recovery team who are highly skilled and supportive. You will have the opportunity to work within a broad multidisciplinary team including surgeons, anaesthetists and theatre practitioners in the recovery of children post theatre.

• To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to children and young people postoperatively, and their relatives within the King's College Hospital.
• To take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the Senior Nurse/ Service Manager.
• To assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of practitioners within the Unit complement.
• To act as a clinical resource within the Unit and across the Care Group as necessary.
• To act as a positive role model to junior staff members.
• To always adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
• To demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of any patients receiving treatment in the department.
• To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients on an ongoing basis, co-ordinating the care given by all members of the clinical team.
• To accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information about the patients' condition, instigate appropriate remedial action and promptly report changes.
• To act as a resource person to others, providing accurate information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients and their relatives.
• To ensure that accurate records are maintained reflecting both changes in the patient's condition and the treatment delivered.
