We are excited to announce a new opportunity for an experienced High Dependency/Critical Care Nurse to join our dedicated team as a band 7 Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse in our world class Adult Critical Care Unit at St Bartholomew's Hospital. HDU is a 12 bedded unit caring for complex cardiothoracic surgical, aortovascular, thoracic surgery, complex cardiology, endocrine and breast level 2 patients.

We have one of the busiest Heart Attack Centres in Europe, ECMO and Oncology patients within our specialist centre. We have 50 critical care beds across 4 areas. The High Dependency Unit (HDU) is a fast-paced and an integral part of the critical care service.

Must be able to work a mixture of long days, bank holidays and nights to meet service requirements.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an individual with a strong clinical background and well-developed leadership skills. The successful candidate will provide professional nursing leadership and clinical oversight across a range of services within HDU and ensuring high standards of care. The role involves coordinating and supporting patient pathways, while offering guidance and support to patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.

To provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised, holistic patient care in conjunction with the inter-professional team.

As a proficient practitioner in HDU/critical care, the post holder acts as a professional role model and clinical teacher. They will also provide effective mentorship and supervision, participating in the education and training of nursing and non-nursing staff.

They will also take charge of the High Dependency Unit as required, liaising closely with the Matron with continuing responsibility.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional organisational skills, confidence in working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels and across professional groups, as well as the ability to work independently. This Band 7 role offers an excellent opportunity to lead and manage staff alongside contributing to service development, education, quality improvement initiatives, audits, and research projects in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

Qualifications Essential

• Registrant with NMC BSc/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification / training and experience Adult Critical Care Course or Equivalent Mentorship course
• ILS / ALS provider Leadership programme or equivalent
• Management qualification or equivalent experience
• Specialist relevant clinical course
• Evidence of continuing professional development Up to date knowledge of clinical speciality and evidence based practice
• Knowledge of current NHS, professional and educational issues

Experience Essential

• Relevant critical care OR High Dependency experience 2 years Band 6 in critical care setting critical 5 years clinical experience post registrarion
• Evidence of positive contribution to critical care
• Experienced in advanced support of critical care patient at band 6 and above
• Involvement in provision of adult critical care course
