Infant Feeding Coordinator

This is an exciting opportunity to coordinate the implementation of the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) standards across Hillingdon’s Family Hubs and Children’s Centres, supporting progress towards UNICEF BFI Stage 2 and Stage 3 accreditation.

The role will strengthen infant feeding pathways, support staff training and audits, promote consistent evidence-based practice and improve access to high-quality infant feeding support for families across the service.

You will work closely with Family Hubs, Children’s Centres, Health Visiting, Maternity, Early Years services and wider community partners to ensure BFI standards are embedded within everyday practice and maintained across services.

• Coordinate the development, implementation and ongoing delivery of the infant feeding strategy in line with UNICEF BFI standards.
• Coordinate activities supporting the achievement and maintenance of BFI Stage 2 and Stage 3 accreditation, including assessments and evidence of compliance.
• Coordinate and contribute to the BFI action plan, monitoring progress, identifying risks and supporting corrective actions.
• Coordinate and support BFI audit processes, including staff audits, parent interviews and service observations.
• Work collaboratively with Health Visiting, Maternity, Early Years services, Family Hubs and Children’s Centres to promote a consistent, high-quality and evidence-based approach.
• Promote a positive breastfeeding and infant feeding culture and support equitable access for all families.
• Provide advice, guidance and training to staff to build confidence, competence and consistency in infant feeding practice.
• Coordinate training programmes, maintain staff competencies and support compliance with BFI education requirements.
• Review and continuously improve infant feeding pathways, practice and service delivery.
• Monitor and evaluate infant feeding services, including uptake and outcomes, using audits and BFI-aligned measures.
• Use data, research, parent feedback and BFI requirements to inform service development and continuous improvement.
• Work directly with families, including parents and infants, to support and promote effective infant feeding practices.

You will have:

• Experience of supporting or coordinating infant feeding services and practice.
• An understanding of the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative and its standards.
• Experience of coordinating training, audits, monitoring or quality improvement activity.
• The ability to work effectively with a range of professionals and partner agencies, including health visiting, maternity and early years services.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to provide advice, guidance and support to staff and families.
• The ability to use data, audit findings and feedback to identify improvements and monitor outcomes.
• A commitment to evidence-based practice and improving access to high-quality infant feeding support for all families.

You will support the service to:

• Work towards achieving and sustaining UNICEF BFI Stage 2 and Stage 3 accreditation within agreed timescales.
• Ensure families have equitable access to high-quality infant feeding support.
• Deliver parent experiences that meet BFI standards, including a target of 80% reported confidence in infant feeding.
• Collect, monitor and analyse data required for BFI accreditation, including audit outcomes, staff competencies and breastfeeding initiation and continuation rates.
