We are recruiting for a unique opportunity within a specialist education setting in North East London, supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs.
This role would suit an experienced NMC Registered Nurse with a strong background in SEND, complex care, safeguarding, and child health, who is looking to make a meaningful impact within a school environment.
The Role
As the lead medical professional on site, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of pupil health and wellbeing, ensuring that medical needs are safely and effectively supported throughout the school day.
Working closely with senior leaders, safeguarding staff, families, health professionals and external agencies, you will play a key role in promoting the welfare, safety and inclusion of pupils with additional and complex needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the lead clinician and first point of contact for medical matters across the school
- Provide first aid, emergency response and ongoing health support to pupils and staff
- Develop, implement and review individual healthcare and care plans
- Support pupils with complex medical conditions, disabilities and long-term health needs
- Safely manage and administer medication in line with policy and legislation
- Maintain accurate clinical records and medical documentation
- Liaise with parents, community healthcare teams and school nursing services
- Support safeguarding processes and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings
- Oversee medical supplies, equipment, audits and compliance requirements
- Provide guidance and support to staff regarding pupil health needs
Essential Requirements
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Previous experience working with children and young people with SEND
- Experience supporting individuals with complex care needs
- Strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within education or healthcare settings
- Experience creating and managing healthcare plans and risk assessments
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work autonomously whilst collaborating effectively with the wider team
- Confident in managing medical emergencies and prioritising workload
Desirable
- Experience working within a school, specialist education setting or children's service
- Paediatric nursing experience
- Knowledge of relevant SEND legislation and education-based healthcare provision
