Staff Nurse - Surgical Assessment Unit

Job summary Join our brand new Surgical Assessment Unit team at Charing Cross Hospital. As a Band 5 Staff Nurse , you will be at the absolute forefront of this new service launch. Working as part of a nursing team under the leadership of the Unit Matron, you will high quality nursing care to surgical patients, supervise junior staff, and drive efficient patient flow through a fast-paced environment.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a newly formed multidisciplinary team, build a collaborative culture from the ground up, and establish clinical excellence in acute surgical care. We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Staff Nurses to join our SAU team at the beginning of this exciting venture.

You will be passionate about delivering safe, high-quality nursing care within a fast paced, evolving and exciting area of acute surgical services. Excellent communication skills are essential, along with the enthusiasm to be part of a forward thinking and innovative nursing team. Main duties of the job

• Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision.
• Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based.
• Individualised patient care.
• Organise one's own work load ensuring most effective use of time.
• Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
• Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures.
• Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
• Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants and students helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
• To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence based practice.
• Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to the speciality as advised by the senior sister or charge nurse.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

• Registered Nurse
• Experience of surgical or assessment nursing as a registered nurse
• Experience of emergency or urgent care nursing
• Ability to prioritise workload and work professionally under pressure
• Ability to organise department activities and to use initiative
• Ability to solve problems and contribute new ideas
• Basic IT skills
• Competent in oral medications, SC, IM injections and IV medications
• Competency in venepuncture and cannulation
