This position offers an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse the opportunity to take responsibility for leading the ward nursing team while supporting veterinary surgeons with ward-based procedures as required. The role carries accountability for always ensuring exceptional standards of care for patients and clients, while maintaining the highest levels of regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
Based in a hospital in the London Borough of Barnet, this ward-focused role is particularly suited to a nurse with a strong passion for inpatient care, meticulous monitoring, and involvement in complex case management. The hospital features advanced diagnostic capabilities, including MRI and CT imaging, and handles a diverse caseload spanning neurology, medicine, and surgery. Facilities include endoscopy and arthroscopy equipment, digital X-ray and ultrasound, multi-parameter monitoring, an in-house laboratory with blood analysers, and dedicated oxygen kennels.
As a 24‑hour hospital supporting practices across London and the South of England, the site offers consistent exposure to challenging and interesting referral cases. Alongside its clinical resources, the hospital prides itself on its collaborative culture. A large team of RVNs and veterinary surgeons work closely together in a supportive environment, complemented by a spacious garden, a dedicated staff room, and excellent transport connections, creating a workplace that is both professional and welcoming.
The role is structured around a four‑day working week, with a weekend rota of one in six weekends, or alternatively one weekend day every three weeks if preferred. The salary ranges from £32,000 to £38,000, inclusive of location allowance, and is dependent on experience.
Responsibilities- Lead and mentor ward nurses, including newly qualified RVNs with an interest in inpatient care.
- Deliver outstanding patient monitoring and nursing care.
- Oversee hospital admissions and discharges.
- Maintain excellent client communication.
- Work collaboratively within a skilled multidisciplinary team, with a strong focus on gold‑standard hospital nursing.
