Purpose of the Role:
The Laboratory Services Coordinator plays a key role within our team. Reporting to the CBRE UK Lab Cluster Lead, the successful candidate will be a highly organised and proactive individual who works closely with the wider CBRE Lab Platform team to provide essential support in managing laboratory operations and coordinating science-related procedures, ensuring smooth and efficient day-to-day delivery across the client laboratories.
Key Responsibilities:Laboratory Operations
- Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the laboratory.
- Ensure laboratory services are delivered in accordance with contractual requirements and service level agreements.
- Coordinate with laboratory staff and other departments to ensure efficient daily operations.
- Manage consumables, inventory levels and waste streams.
- Lead the implementation of new processes and equipment.
- Monitor KPIs and provide clear communication to stakeholders.
- Lead and manage onsite laboratory associate staff.
- Support recruitment, training, supervision and scheduling of laboratory associates.
- Manage and review team performance and development.
- Act as the primary point of escalation and liaison between laboratory services, client stakeholders and end users.
- Contribute to the strategic planning of laboratory operations.
- Establish, implement and monitor laboratory controls and quality standards.
- Manage external vendors on behalf of the client.
- Ensure laboratory operations comply with regulatory requirements.
- Implement and monitor health and safety procedures.
- Ensure risk assessments, COSHH assessments and training requirements are maintained.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and health and safety legislation.
Skills & Experience:
Experience
- Experience in a laboratory support, technician, facilities or similar role.
- Previous experience in laboratory supervision or management.
- Previous line management experience.
- Proven track record of delivering laboratory-based services.
- Strong customer service, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise in a changing environment.
- Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure, business-critical environments.
- Proficient in safe handling and storage of flammable, toxic and corrosive chemicals.
- Ability to change and connect compressed gas cylinders.
- Familiarity with liquid nitrogen safe-handling procedures.
- Basic operation and first-line maintenance of laboratory vacuum and cooling equipment.
- Competent user of a chemical inventory or LIMS system.
- COSHH awareness training (Level 2 or equivalent).
- Understanding of DSEAR and flammable atmosphere controls.
- ISO 14644 cleanroom experience.
- IOSH Working Safely or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Nanomaterial or nanoparticle handling training.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Collaborative, solutions-focused team player with a proactive approach.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic R&D environment.
- Committed to continuous improvement and best-practice working.
