Job overviewWe are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineering Technician to fill a vacancy within the Mechanical Workshop of the Department. You will join an enthusiastic department that provides a Medical Equipment Management service for the Trust. The post involves working closely with other healthcare professionals, in providing corrective / planned maintenance on a wide range of equipment including beds and suction and flow meters.
In addition the Mechanical Engineering Technician works closely with teams within the Trust to design bespoke items to support patients.
Our department works to a registered quality assurance system (BS EN ISO 9001:2015) to give a high standard of customer care.
You should be qualified to degree level or equivalent in an engineering/ science discipline or have an equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience/vocational training.
This post is offered as Band 6 with recruitment at Band 5 and progression to the Band 6 following completion of required competencies and skills. An expected 12 month period at Band 5 before progression to Band 6.

Main duties of the jobYou will be part of the team managing the Trust’s large stock of medical equipment. The specialties covered include: imaging equipment, pathology laboratory equipment, patient beds and cots, Medical Gas regulators and flowmeters as well as the full range of patient related monitoring and therapeutic equipment found in the Trust’s wards, intensive cares and theatres. Your main tasks are to maintain the equipment in all parts of the hospital, carry out planned preventative maintenance and to test and calibrate the medical equipment.
You will work unsupervised, and exercise the initiative and responsibility required to maintain complex systems and equipment in the optimum functional state. You will need to exhibit a "can do" attitude and be flexible in your attitude to work. You will advise and help the other members of the department as necessary.
- To provide specialised clinical technical services for preventative maintenance, servicing, inspection and repair to a wide range of complex and patient‑critical medical equipment.
- To work in close co-operation with clinical staff to meet planned preventative maintenance and servicing of the medical equipment
