Overview

We are looking for a Research Assistant to join our team working on next-generation solid-state hydrogen storage materials, contributing to an EPSRC-funded project that supports the UK’s net-zero and clean energy ambitions. The role sits at the interface of materials science, chemical engineering, and hydrogen energy.

The post involves hands-on experimental research, including the preparation, characterisation, and analysis of advanced hydrogen storage materials. You will be expected to be proficient in high-pressure gas adsorption measurements, including the use of IGA-003 and HTP-1 systems, and to work independently with specialist laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct hands-on experimental research on solid-state hydrogen storage materials, including preparation, characterisation, and analysis.
  • Perform high‑pressure gas adsorption measurements using IGA-003 and HTP-1 systems; work independently with specialist laboratory equipment.
  • Collaborate with academic staff and other researchers to deliver key project milestones and contribute to high-quality research outputs and publications.
  • Develop expertise in a highly specialised and fast-growing research area, with strong links to international collaborations and impact-driven hydrogen research.
  • As a member of Research Staff at the University of Bath, participate in professional development (pro rata) of at least 10 days per year.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Motivated researcher with strong experimental skills, the ability to work independently, and a collaborative approach.
  • Proficiency in high-pressure gas adsorption measurements and experience with specialist laboratory equipment.
