Research Associate – Health Systems and Policy

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is inviting applications for the position of Research Associate within its Health Systems and Policy research portfolio. This role is embedded in a leading global health research environment and contributes to advancing evidence-based policy and strengthening health systems in low- and middle-income countries.

The post holder will work closely with multidisciplinary research teams on projects examining health system performance, financing, service delivery, and policy implementation. Responsibilities include designing and conducting quantitative and qualitative research, managing datasets, performing statistical and policy analyses, and contributing to high-quality research outputs such as reports, peer‑reviewed publications, and policy briefs. The role also involves engagement with stakeholders, including policymakers, international partners, and collaborating institutions, ensuring that research findings inform real‑world health system improvements.

The successful candidate will contribute to project coordination, support grant development activities, and assist in mentoring junior researchers where appropriate. The position offers an opportunity to work on impactful global health challenges within a collaborative and intellectually stimulating academic setting.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree, preferably a PhD, in public health, health economics, health policy, epidemiology, or a closely related discipline, or possess equivalent research experience.

Required expertise/skills

Candidates should have demonstrated experience in health systems or policy research, including strong analytical and methodological skills. Proficiency in statistical software (such as Stata, R, or similar) and experience with qualitative research methods are highly desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams, and experience managing research projects or components are essential. Familiarity with global health contexts, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, is advantageous.

Salary details

£38,282 – £43,947 per annum
