A Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Professor Jessica Strid in the Department of Immunology and Inflammation at the Imperial College Hammersmith campus.
In this Research Associate post you will work on an exciting new research project investigating how ‘allergic’ type 2/IgE responses in the skin links to the peripheral nervous system and regulate inflammation and cancer immune‑surveillance. You will also study whether this skin/brain axis dictates behaviour. This is part of a larger research programme in the Strid Lab which focuses on skin immune‑surveillance.
The skin has an active tissue‑specific local immune system and is the largest and most innervated organ in our body. You will be exploring links between the skin immune system and the peripheral nervous system for the control of sensory signals affecting nociception and inflammation. You will be focussed on the physiological role of type 2 immunity and exploring how allergic sensitisation in the skin may drive acute and chronic nerve signals, which in turn regulate immune‑surveillance and avoidance behaviour.
We will be providing access to state‑of‑the‑art facilities, training opportunities, and a great network of collaborators. We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for postdocs and you will gain training within the Strid lab and core facilities. You will also have access to a range of personal and professional development courses through Imperial.
What you would be doingYou should take initiative for the planning and execution of your research, including identifying and developing suitable techniques and analysis. You should ensure the validity and reliability of your data at all times, including good record‑keeping. You should be willing and able to work both independently and as part of a team with a common goal. You should be prepared and capable of communicating your work, including in written reports and papers.
Collegiality and maintaining a harmonious work environment are paramount.
To join our lab, you should be highly motivated and enthusiastic and hold a PhD in immunology or another relevant discipline. You will be joining a collaborative research environment with several other basic and translational immunology research groups. We expect that you will have strong organisational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
We encourage innovative thinking and initiative, and good interpersonal skills are essential.
Previous experience with tissue immunology and in vivo models as well as technical know‑how in FACS, imaging and transcriptomic analysis would be advantageous.
What we can offer you- The opportunity to continue your career at a world‑leading institution and be part of our mission to continue science for humanity.
- As a member of research staff you have 10 development days to use to develop your skills and explore your career prospects.
