Clinical Research Fellow in Paediatric Infectious Disease Diagnostics
Do you want to transform the way we diagnose lower respiratory tract infections?
As a Clinical Research Fellow in Paediatric Infectious Disease Diagnostics, you will be at the centre of a multi‑disciplinary team developing a host blood gene expression test to diagnose the cause of lower respiratory tract infection in children at the point‑of‑care. You will work with academic and commercial sector partners to establish proof‑of‑concept and initial use cases for a transformative test which could improve care of millions of children and tackle a major driver of antimicrobial resistance.
Whatyou would be doing
You will:
- Design and assist with undertaking a sub‑study to assess diagnostic performance of the new diagnostic test in carefully selected samples from an existing biobank.
- Identify and explore potential use cases for blood‑based testing at the point‑of‑care for diagnosis of LRTI in both high and low resource settings, including investigation of clinical utility, analysis of design features (including pricing), and analysis of clinical guidelines and regulatory pathways.
- Plan and lead these aspects within a high‑quality programme of research.
- Contribute to project management, and work closely with multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Submit publications to refereed journals and contribute to applications for external research funding.
- Knowledgeable about Paediatric Infectious Diseases.
- Good understanding of research methods and statistical procedures, including transcriptomic analysis and methods for evaluation of diagnostic accuracy.
- Practical experience within a research environment and publications in relevant and refereed journals.
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
- Experience of coordinating clinical research including dealing with sponsors, regulatory authorities, and research collaborators.

This role is for a fixed‑term contract available on either a full‑time basis for 6 months, or part‑time 0.5 FTE for 12 months (subject to salary of appointee). Expected start date is in August 2026 (with potential for flexibility).
