Research Associate in adsorption processes for direct air capture
Are you excited by the challenge of developing the next generation of adsorption technologies for Direct Air Capture? The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join the UKRI-NSF ecoDAC project, an international research programme focused on advancing adsorption-based technologies for Direct Air Capture.
What you would be doingYour main responsibility will be to design, commission and operate a prototype experimental device for capturing carbon dioxide from air. You will use this prototype to characterise the performance of various sorbents and sorbent contractors, alongside a comprehensive programme of validation studies. You will also apply, and adapt where necessary, numerical methods for interpretation of the generated data sets and to assess process performance.

The key requirement for the post is a proven track record in adsorption fundamentals and adsorption processes, including the design and operation of experimental equipment for adsorption research and the modelling of adsorption systems.

This is a PhD level role but candidates who have not yet been officially awarded will be appointed as a Research Assistant. You can start immediately and ideally no later than 1 October 2026. This is a full‑time post (35 hours per week). This role is for a fixed‑term contract for 24 months.
