Digital Health and Trial Senior Research Fellow

We are seeking to appoint a Digital Health and Trial Senior Research Fellow. The post is available for immediate start.

This role will be based in the Department of Infection and Population Health. The Department brings under one roof all the infection, clinical and population health, including sexual health, molecular epidemiology, and tuberculosis. It has one of the largest cohorts of people living with HIV and includes groups skilled in statistics, mathematical modelling and evaluation. It is home to Natsal, one of the largest and most detailed studies of sexual behaviour in the world.

The current post offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge research into digital sexual health within a research programme led by Prof Claudia Estcourt (PI).

The postholder will support an established NIHR funded Programme Grant for Applied Research, “Improving care for people with sexually transmitted infections in a digital NHS”, referred to as SEQUENCE Digital. The programme focusses on delivery of online clinical care for people with sexually transmitted infections and builds on previous work in which we developed an innovative eSexual Health Clinic (eSHC) and demonstrated safety and feasibility in exploratory studies.

It contains an online clinical consultation and electronic prescribing algorithm for comprehensive management of people with chlamydia and their partners via the Online Chlamydia Care Pathway (OCP) (DOI:(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).)30034-8 ).

The main purpose of this role is to deliver the pilot studies of the eSexual Health Clinic and analyse the findings, along with preparing for a cluster cross over RCT.

The post holder will draft all NIHR milestones required during the post and also contribute to scientific publications, conference abstracts and presentations, and support Research Fish and other research database platform submissions.

The post holder will support stakeholder engagement activities, including community engagement and will oversee a small team consisting of two research fellows and the research nurses.

The post holder will also contribute to the Digital Health for Infectious Diseases MSc module, as well as giving other lectures as required and will supervise undergraduate and masters’ students.

This role is available on a part-time basis (i.e. 0.8 FTE, 29.2 hours per week) or on a full-time basis (i.e. 1.0 FTE, 36.5 hours per week). This is a 12-month fixed-term appointment, available for immediate start.

Salary range: £56,431 - £66,437 per annum (including London Allowance), depending on experience, pro-rata for part-time staff.

It is essential that the successful candidate has a PhD-level qualification or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field such as sexual health, infectious diseases, public health or reproductive health research.

They will also have:

• Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field such as biological, social sciences or a health-related discipline or related discipline
• Experience conducting and analysing qualitative interviews with healthcare professionals and members of the public/patients and of analysing quantitative data
• Demonstrated experience managing and implementing research governance processes, including GCP, IRAS, MHRA and/or R&D processes
