About us Biosciences is one of the world’s foremost centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences and one of the largest Divisions within UCL, undertaking a significant amount of research and teaching. The Division has a diverse portfolio addressing all areas of biology from protein interactions to cell function, organism development, genetics, population studies and the environment. Computational modelling approaches are frequently used alongside experimental research programmes and much of our research crosses traditional boundaries, including the relationship of biodiversity to the health of the planet.

Activity is underpinned by high calibre science technology platforms and state of the art equipment. Educational activity includes a range of undergraduate programmes, an expanding number of Masters Programmes and a substantial number of postgraduate research students.

Within Biosciences, the Research Department of Cell and Developmental Biology is internationally recognised for its pioneering research. UCL is widely regarded as one of Europe's leading institutions for zebrafish research, bringing together a vibrant community of more than 40 researchers supported by dedicated expertise and advanced facilities. This role will be central to strengthening and expanding that capability through the creation of a new Fish Research Facility that will support innovative, collaborative and impactful research across the University.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the establishment of a new TRAC-registered Fish Research Facility within UCL Biosciences. Working closely with Faculty and Divisional leadership, academic stakeholders and technical teams, you will take ownership of the project from business case development through to operational delivery and handover. The role combines strategic project management, stakeholder engagement, financial planning and technical leadership to create a sustainable, high-performing research facility that supports UCL's world-leading zebrafish research community.

You will oversee the planning, implementation and governance of the facility, ensuring it is delivered on time, financially viable and aligned with the Division's wider research infrastructure. The post also involves providing strategic oversight of specialist zebrafish research technologies, genomics and imaging platforms, whilst identifying opportunities to introduce innovative technologies and capabilities that enhance research excellence across UCL.This is a fixed-term appointment for 17 months and is expected to be predominantly site-based to support engagement with researchers, technical teams and operational stakeholders.

You will bring strong project management skills and a proven ability to lead complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, budgets and competing priorities.

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of zebrafish research and associated technologies, alongside experience of laboratory operations, health and safety management, equipment procurement and facility development. You will be a confident communicator, capable of building effective relationships with academics, technical specialists, professional services colleagues and external partners.
