Job Description & How to Apply Below
Research Associate in Functional Genomics

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated postdoctoral Research Associate in Functional Genomics to join our newly established Renal Genomics research group. Funded by the Medical Research Council and Kidney Research UK, this exciting post will investigate how gene-regulatory networks drive kidney and urinary tract development, and how disruption of these mechanisms lead to congenital anomalies of the kidneys and urinary tract (CAKUT) – the commonest cause of kidney failure in children.

What

you would be doing

You will establish and run iPSC-derived kidney and ureteric bud organoid models, use CRISPR interference to perturb candidate cis-regulatory elements, and profile the consequences using single-nucleus multiomics, CUT&RUN and low-input chromosome conformation capture techniques. You will be based at the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences; a discovery research institute located at Imperial College London (Hammersmith Campus) and will have the opportunity to undertake advanced training in stem cells and kidney organoid models.

You will take the initiative in driving your project forward, working collaboratively with bioinformaticians and clinicians to generate and experimentally test mechanistic hypotheses. You will submit publications to high-quality peer-reviewed journals, present your work at national and international conferences, and will be encouraged to develop independent research ideas within the lab's core focus.

What we are looking for
  • A PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant biology field – e.g. stem cell or developmental biology, genetics/genomics, or molecular biology.
  • Experience of mammalian cell culture and strong molecular biology skills.
  • A strong interest in understanding the drivers of kidney development and disease.
What we can offer you
  • This role offers excellent training in both wet and dry lab approaches including the generation and analysis of single-cell multiomic datasets.
  • You will work at a world-leading Institution and be part of a diverse team interacting with leading experts.
  • You will have an opportunity to make discoveries about human health that have an impact on patients.
  • An opportunity to develop your own research interests within a research group focussed on kidney development and disease.
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 41 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
  • Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing .
