Beneath every major project lies a story waiting to be told. The sediments, soils and buried landscapes that geoarchaeology helps us understand are irreplaceable, and the consultants who can read them, record them and communicate their meaning play a vital role in how we deliver projects responsibly.

The sediments, soils and buried landscapes that geoarchaeology helps us understand are irreplaceable, and the consultants who can read them, record them and communicate their meaning play a vital role in how we deliver projects responsibly.
AboutThe Role
You will support the delivery of geoarchaeological consultancy services across assessment, reporting, fieldwork and data interpretation, working under the guidance of our Geoarchaeology Lead as you develop towards independent practice.
On the assessment and reporting side, you will compile and review geological, geomorphological, geotechnical, archaeological and environmental datasets, undertake background research, assist in the preparation of Geoarchaeological Potential Assessments and Desk-Based Assessments, and contribute to the development of conceptual and site-specific deposit models. You will prepare figures, GIS outputs, plans and tables, and draft factual and interpretative sections of technical reports.
In the field, you will attend site visits and ground investigations, record and describe sediments, soils and strati graphic sequences, compile field records and photographs, and support the monitoring of ground investigation and archaeological works as your training and authorisation develop.
You will also contribute to data management and digital outputs, including GIS-based project information, digital mapping and deposit models, and will have the opportunity to get involved in developing digital and AI-enabled approaches to geoarchaeological assessment. A full UK driving licence is required, or must be obtained during your probationary period.
Your ImpactThe geoarchaeological work you contribute to here will help ensure that buried landscapes and archaeological deposits are properly understood, appropriately assessed and sensitively managed across some of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes. That is work with real meaning, and it starts from day one.
As your skills and confidence grow, so will the independence and complexity of what you take on. The progression pathway here is clear, supported and genuinely invested in, and we are committed to helping you become a confident, capable geoarchaeological practitioner.
About YouYou hold an undergraduate degree in Archaeology, Geography, Geology, Earth Sciences or a related discipline, with a Master’s in Geoarchaeology, Environmental Archaeology, Quaternary Science, Geomorphology or a related subject preferred though not essential. You bring a dissertation, research, placement, or field experience in geoarchaeology, environmental archaeology, Quaternary science, or sedimentary analysis, and a genuine, demonstrable interest in buried landscape reconstruction and Quaternary environments.
You are organised, curious and keen to learn. You take care with your work, engage enthusiastically with mentoring and knowledge-sharing, and are excited by the opportunity to develop practical skills in sediment description, strati graphic interpretation and deposit modelling within a professional consultancy environment.
