About us

King’s Smart Trials Hub (STH) is a globally distinctive multi-omics centre, located at Guy’s Hospital campus within Research Infrastructure, part of Research Management and Innovation Directorate at King’s College London.

The Hub brings together state-of-the-art spatial and non-spatial ‘omics’ technologies to enable full molecular profiling of cells, tissues and liquid biopsies and leverages advanced, multi-modal technologies to investigate disease biology at high resolution, supporting the equitable development of personalised therapies.

About the role

As Technical Specialist in Single Cell Spatial Transcriptomics and Spatial Proteomics, you’ll play a key role in delivering and advancing cutting‑edge single-cell and spatial omics technologies and workflows within the Smart Trials Hub.

Working as part of a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary team, the role provides expert technical support across a broad range of academic and commercial research projects, applying specialist knowledge of single-cell spatial transcriptomics and spatial proteomics, and associated technologies.

The role is responsible for delivering and optimising advanced single-cell and spatial omics workflows, including RNA & protein antibody barcoding protocols, cell sorting, next‑generation sequencing (NGS), whole transcriptome analysis, method development, data acquisition and quality control. You’ll ensure the generation of high‑quality, reproducible datasets and contribute to the continuous development of the facility’s research capabilities.

You’ll provide specialist advice on experimental design and emerging methodologies, maintain equipment and workflows to a high standard, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and ensure the highest levels of sample and data integrity. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, accurate record keeping and a commitment to delivering high‑quality research outcomes.

This is a full‑time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. This is an onsite, facility‑based role and the post‑holder is expected to be on‑campus for the full working week.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria
  • PhD in relevant subject area, or equivalent experience gained in a research setting.
  • Demonstrable hands‑on experience with spatial transcriptomics and/or tissue profiling techniques, such as Chromium, Visium, Xenium platforms.
  • Experience with data analysis and quality control of single cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomic data.
  • Experience in method development and optimising workflows to deliver robust, reproducible and high‑quality scientific data across a range of sample types.
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams, building collaborative relationships with colleagues, researchers and stakeholders. Demonstrable ability to communicate openly, share knowledge, support others, and contribute to a positive working environment.
  • Excellent communication, written and verbal, with the ability to communicate complex scientific and technical information clearly and effectively to a range of audiences, including through reports, publications and presentations.
  • Demonstrable ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands, and manage multiple projects or activities simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working with human tissue and clinical data with an awareness of relevant governance and data protection considerations.
  • Experience with data analysis software such as 10x Genomics Ranger platforms for re‑analysis and deeper data interpretation.
  • Experience working in a research facility environment.
  • Experience of delivering technical training or hands‑on support to researchers or colleagues.
