Barista / Bartender House of Racquet – Clubhouse Café & Bar

The Role The Barista is responsible for delivering high-quality coffee, drinks and service within the House of Racquet clubhouse.
Our café and retail wall sit at the centre of the club. Members gather before and after matches, browse products, meet clients and spend time socially. You will help ensure the space runs smoothly, looks sharp and operates to a consistently high standard throughout the day.
You’ll work closely with duty managers, front‑of‑house and coaching teams. This is a hands‑on role in a fast‑paced environment where standards, awareness and initiative matter.
Key ResponsibilitiesCoffee & Beverage Service
- Prepare and serve espresso‑based drinks, alternative milks, iced drinks and seasonal specials to a consistent standard
- Dial in grinders and adjust throughout the day to maintain quality
- Maintain and clean coffee equipment daily
- Prepare alcoholic drinks (during evening /weekend shifts)
Retail & Product Sales
- Support sales of padel rackets, balls, apparel and House of Racquet merchandise
- Confidently explain product features and make recommendations
- Keep retail displays organised, stocked and aligned with brand standards during quiet periods in the cafe
- Process retail transactions accurately using the POS system
- Monitor stock levels and flag replenishment requirements
- Support demo experiences and equipment recommendations where appropriate
Commercial awareness forms part of the role.
Member Experience
- Greet members and guests professionally and confidently
- Manage orders efficiently during peak periods
- Maintain a calm and composed presence under pressure
- Build familiarity with regular members and ensure newcomers feel welcome
- Represent House of Racquet with professionalism and attention to detail
Operations & Standards
- Open and close the café and retail areas correctly
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation across the space
- Follow hygiene, licensing and health & safety procedures
- Communicate operational issues clearly to the duty manager
- Take responsibility for your designated area during your shift
Team Contribution
- Work collaboratively with front‑of‑house, managers and coaches
- Support colleagues during busy periods
- Take ownership without requiring close supervision
- Contribute positively to the overall club environment
Experience & Skills
- 1–2 years’ experience as a Barista in a busy hospitality environment
- Confident espresso skills and understanding of coffee calibration
- Comfortable working in high‑volume service
- Experience in retail or product sales preferred
- Reliable, organised and professional
- Strong communication skills
- Flexible with working hours
An interest in sport, wellness or community‑led environments is advantageous.
Working Pattern & Physical Requirements
- Shifts include early mornings, evenings and weekends
- Opening shifts may begin from approximately 6:30am
- Closing shifts may run into the late evening depending on bookings and events
- Flexibility across weekdays and weekends is required
This is a fully on‑site role based at House of Racquet, King’s Cross.
The role requires:
- Being on your feet for extended periods
- Working in a fast‑paced hospitality environment
- Lifting and moving stock, including milk crates, coffee supplies and retail deliveries and taking out rubbish when necessary
- Maintaining focus and energy during peak service times
- Must be over the age of 18
