Halloween Retail Sales Assistant – Costumes & Styling

Salary £12.71 per hour

Hours flexible (6-7 hours) 12am - 7pm

Join Carnival Store at 95 Hammersmith Road, London, for our busy Halloween season. This is an active retail sales role combining creative costume advice, excellent customer service and practical shop-floor support.

• Proactively welcome customers and create a friendly, lively and inclusive shopping experience.
• Ask about customers’ party themes, character ideas, preferences and budgets, then recommend suitable costumes.
• Help customers build complete looks by recommending complementary wigs, hats, masks, props, makeup and accessories.
• Increase sales through relevant link selling and upselling while respecting customers’ budgets and choices.
• Learn our costume range, character references, prices, sizes, stock locations and what each outfit includes.
• Suggest creative alternatives when a preferred costume or size is unavailable.
• Help customers choose coordinated outfits for couples, families and groups.
• Support shop sales targets by turning enquiries into purchases through helpful advice and confident recommendations.
• Assist with fitting enquiries, check product information and explain shop policies accurately.
• Operate the till and handle payments accurately following training.
• Replenish stock, organise costumes and accessories, check price labels and maintain tidy displays.
• Help create appealing outfit combinations and displays that draw attention to available stock.
• Work efficiently with colleagues during busy periods, supporting queues and assisting several customers courteously.
• Take initiative during quieter periods by preparing stock, improving displays and developing product knowledge.
• Resolve straightforward customer concerns within shop policy and refer other issues to the manager.
• Deliver service that encourages positive feedback, recommendations and repeat visits.

We are looking for a reliable, proactive and commercially minded person who enjoys helping customers and can contribute to both sales and a positive shop atmosphere.

• Friendly, confident communication and attentive listening.
• Comfortable approaching customers, starting conversations and helping them make purchasing decisions.
• Ability to suggest relevant additional products without making customers feel pressured.
• An interest in costumes, character styling, fashion, theatre, film or popular culture.
• Willingness to learn our products quickly and use that knowledge to recommend complete outfits.
• Creative problem-solving when customers are undecided or products are unavailable.
• Initiative: noticing what needs doing and acting without constant prompting.
• Good organisation, attention to detail and care when handling stock and payments.
• Ability to remain welcoming, calm and efficient in a busy shop.
• A respectful approach to customers of different sizes, backgrounds and levels of confidence.
• Punctuality, teamwork and commitment to agreed shifts throughout the Halloween period.

Previous retail, sales, hospitality or customer-service experience is preferred. Costume knowledge, visual merchandising and till experience are advantageous. Students and graduates from all disciplines are welcome if they can demonstrate the qualities above.
