Job Description & How to Apply Below

In five years, Positive Retail has grown from a pop-up on the south coast to a flagship in one of the world’s most watched retail destinations. We are a mission-driven, B Corp-certified, female-founded British independent. Our founder was named one of Vogue Business’s 2025 Champions of Change.

King’s Cross is our biggest step yet. Commuters, office teams, students, tourists and Eurostar arrivals pass through every day. It’s also an exciting new home for For Keeps, our newly launched jewellery brand in recycled metals.

We mean business. Now we’re looking for the team to take Positive Retail to the next level with us.

How we’re different

Our founder spent decades as a buyer on the high street and saw the same thing every season: so much good stock got quickly devalued or went unsold. She saw a gap in the market for a premium surplus store that was well curated and mission-driven.

We curate the best surplus from brands we love and give it the home it deserves. Every piece is curated, merchandised with care and sold with our story, at a price that feels like a find.

We are not a discount store. Our brand partners, including Universal Works, Margaret Howell and Damson Madder, trust us with their product and their name, and they stay with us.

Why you’ll be proud to work here
  • Every sale keeps excellent stock in use and out of waste. We are doing good.
  • You’ll be part of a business that’s growing fast, trusted by the industry and recognised for changing retail.
Our culture

We’re deeply values-driven, entrepreneurial-minded and very engaged with the world around us. We work hard. We get to know our customers and bring warmth and enthusiasm to everything we do. Our shops feel fun, energetic and full of conversation.

We are serious operators. We know our numbers, we hold high standards and we deliver. We’re intent on changing retail for the better.

The role

You lead our King’s Cross flagship. You own the number, the team, the standards and the customer. We need someone heart-led with a solid core. Commercial first, values always.

Our business runs on four pillars:
People, Product, Planet and Profit. Below is what each one means for this role.

Profit: trade and performance
  • Deliver the store sales budget and KPIs: conversion, average transaction value (ATV), units per transaction (UPT), sell-through, margin and wage cost.
  • Analyse your figures every day and every week. Form your own view of what’s working, what isn’t and what you’ll do about it.
  • Present that view on Zoom at the Monday trade meeting with the Founder and HQ team, with clear actions.
  • Manage the mix across clothing, jewellery and lifestyle. Grow jewellery as a key category with For Keeps.
  • Know your footfall: who comes in, when and why. Plan staffing, selling and events around it.
  • Set individual sales targets for each team member, track them and coach them.
  • Feed back best-sellers, stock gaps, pricing signals and customer requests to the buying team.
  • Attend quarterly leadership meetings at HQ in Margate to review performance and plan ahead.
People: build and lead the team
  • Lead a fair, inclusive and high-energy culture by example.
  • Plan rotas monthly to match trading patterns and the wage budget. Manage holidays around peak periods.
  • Run probation reviews, regular one-to-ones and annual appraisals on time.
  • Give feedback that is clear, fair and immediate.
  • Tackle underperformance quickly and fairly, with HQ support where needed.
  • Build a development plan for each person. Spot future Supervisors and Store Managers and grow them.
  • Manage hours, breaks, sickness and return-to-work meetings.
Product: standards and stock
  • Keep the store premium, curated and cohesive every hour it’s open. A strong visual merchandising eye is essential.
  • Adapt the space to what’s selling. Be reactive…
