Position: Multi-Trade Operative - Rail Underground)

Daniel Owen are currently looking for an experienced Rail-based Multi-Trade Operative, located near Basildon, Essex, to join our established team supporting maintenance and project works across the London Underground network. This role offers long-term, varied work within a safety-critical environment, ideal for multi-skilled operatives who take pride in delivering high-quality workmanship.

This is a mobile role that will require travel across multiple stations on the Underground network, so the successful candidate must be based close to our Basildon office for ease of deployment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake a variety of multi-trade maintenance and refurbishment works within stations, including painting, general building repairs, carpentry, basic plumbing, and minor electrical tasks.

  • Deliver both planned maintenance and reactive works, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

  • Work within a live rail environment, adhering to all safety rules, procedures, and industry regulations.

  • Accurately complete job sheets, reporting, and photographic evidence as required.

  • Liaise with supervisors, station staff, and team members to ensure smooth delivery of works.

  • Work a mixture of days, nights, and occasional weekends, depending on access requirements.

Requirements:
  • Ideally located in or near Basildon, Essex, or within a reasonable commute.

  • Experience working within a rail environment is highly desirable - London Underground or Network Rail.

  • A valid Sentinel card is preferable; willingness to undergo training if not already held.

  • Strong background in painting and general building is essential.

  • Competence across multiple trades, demonstrating "all-rounder" ability.

  • Full UK driving licence required, as a company vehicle may be provided.

  • Excellent awareness of health & safety and ability to work safely in a rail setting.

  • Must be fully flexible to work days and nights, including potential weekend shifts.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a professional and proactive approach.
