Position: Consultant Social Worker – Adolescent Team (Contract)
London Borough of Barking & Dagenham | Locum | £39.04 per hour | Hybrid Working (3 Days in Borough)

The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is seeking an experienced Consultant Social Worker to join their Adolescent Team. This is a senior practice role supporting adolescents with complex needs, risk, and vulnerability, while also contributing to high-quality practice across the service.

You will hold a small caseload of up to 12 young people and will also be responsible for supervising social work students. The role requires a strong presence in the borough, with a minimum of 3 days per week, including either Monday or Friday, to support effective multi-agency working and practice development.

In this role, you’ll provide expert social work input, support reflective practice, and help drive positive outcomes for adolescents through relationship-based and strengths-informed approaches.

What You’ll Need:

Social Work England Registration

Social Work Qualification

Significant post-qualified experience in children’s social care

Strong experience working with adolescents and complex risk

Ability to manage a reduced caseload alongside supervisory responsibilities

Experience supervising students or less experienced practitioners

Strong analytical, assessment, and decision-making skills

Ability to work confidently in a borough-based, multi-agency environment
