Summary
- The Housing First Officer will provide intensive, person-centered support to individuals experiencing multiple exclusion homelessness across the borough. This role is crucial in helping clients sustain their tenancies, improve their wellbeing, and engage with appropriate support services using a trauma-informed and psychologically-informed approach. The post-holder will work within a small specialist team, offering flexible, peripatetic support in alignment with Housing First principles.
- Manage a caseload of individuals with complex needs who have experienced rough sleeping or hostel dwelling.
- Conduct regular, flexible support visits in clients’ homes or community settings.
- Build trusting relationships with clients using trauma-informed and psychologically-informed practices.
- Support clients in sustaining tenancies, managing rent and bills, and maintaining safe living environments.
- Assist clients in accessing welfare benefits, health services, substance misuse services, and other necessary interventions.
- Significant experience in homelessness, rough sleeping, or supported housing services.
- Prior experience in Housing First or a comparable intensive support model (highly desirable).
- Experience supporting clients with complex needs, including mental health issues, substance misuse, trauma, and long-term rough sleeping.
- Strong understanding of homelessness pathways, multiple exclusion homelessness, and rough sleeping.
- Knowledge of adult safeguarding legislation and procedures.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly build rapport with vulnerable individuals.
