Overview

The main aims of the Participation & Wellbeing Lead volunteer role is to set up and lead the sessions. Being the main point of contact on the day, looking after participants welfare and safeguarding, supporting behaviour and being welcoming.

What difference will you make?

Dyspraxic Me offers dyspraxic young adults the chance to take part in a series of workshops that help them develop useful skills for adulthood for example cooking, sports and social skills. Participants help to inform the sessions by having opportunities to suggest what sessions they would like to attend and would find beneficial. Sessions have included cooking, cycling, social skills, employability skills and art;

we usually organise a social picnic each year. Every year we organise events for Dyspraxia Awareness Week to raise awareness of dyspraxia.

What are we looking for?
  • Experience in safeguarding and confident in being a safeguarding lead
  • Knowledge of neurodivergence and specifically dyspraxia
  • Experience in managing sensory overload or shutdowns
  • Knowledge of GDPR
  • Experience in setting up and leading events
What will you be doing?

The main aims of the Participation & Wellbeing Lead volunteer role will be to lead the sessions. Being the main point of contact on the day, looking after participants welfare and safeguarding, managing for example sensory overload or shutdowns and being welcoming.

  • Being the main point of contact on the day (answering members messages)
  • Arriving at least 15 minutes beforehand to set up and meet the class teacher
  • Setting up the space
  • Welcoming members
  • Looking after members welfare
  • Safeguarding lead
  • Managing for example sensory overload or shutdowns
  • Support with setting up further sessions for fitness classes and classes for different age ranges

Currently delivering monthly cooking classes in Hackney.

Charity objectives
  • Providing or assisting in the provision of recreational, learning or leisure activities for dyspraxic young people by holding monthly meetings
  • Raising awareness of dyspraxia by holding a yearly dyspraxia awareness event during Dyspraxia Awareness Week
  • Supporting dyspraxic young people’s mental health by building a peer support network
