Compensation & Contract
Annual salary: up to £29,856.80 per annum plus a £3,500 car allowance.
- Full time, Permanent, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm.
- Expected to be on patch by 8:30am. Exception to take part in the OOH rota.
- 1 in 7 weeks covering Monday to Monday.
Huddersfield & Kirklees – Field based with travel across the Yorkshire and Humber area as required.
About the RoleMears Housing Management is seeking a Resident Welfare Officer to support the delivery of a new service designed to help vulnerable individuals avoid homelessness and transition into settled accommodation. This is a front‑line role combining administrative, practical, and pastoral responsibilities. You will provide support to service users, helping them manage interim housing and access the resources they need to move forward.
Responsibilities- Assess, record and plan welfare and support needs for each client assigned to you.
- Deliver welfare and support services in line with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy, ensuring a tailored, culturally aware approach.
- Ensure full contractual compliance and meet Key Performance Indicators and service delivery targets.
- Signpost, direct referrals, and liaise with other agencies and organisations.
- Develop and build relationships with other support and service providers within the region.
- Manage and mitigate service user well‑being risk and escalation in line with policy and procedure.
- Ensure safeguarding and welfare are fully considered in line with processes.
- Maintain boundaries and be resilient to provide a professional, well‑defined service.
- Work collaboratively with Housing Managers to deliver seamless service to meet individual and property needs.
- Provide performance and service reporting to the line manager; escalation of all risks and concerns for full resolution.
- Report incidents where welfare concerns occur, including safeguarding concerns.
- Maintain clean properties and turn property around when void.
- Raise work orders for repairs (including void properties) and follow up on completed work.
- Demonstrable experience in a similar role within housing, support or welfare services.
- Strong communication skills with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to manage conflict and challenging situations effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general IT competence.
- Ability to work independently and use own initiative.
- Good understanding of local support services and housing pathways.
- Strong focus on safeguarding.
- Strong time‑management and ability to balance competing priorities.
- A full UK Driving Licence (essential for travel between properties and appointments).
- Empathetic, trustworthy, patient, approachable, good listener; strong desire to help others.
