Dorset Community Action (DCA) works with communities across Dorset to develop practical, community‑led solutions that improve local lives. We support places where traditional services are limited or inaccessible, helping communities respond to real local need.

We are looking for a Supported Employment Team Leader to help the delivery and development of Green Care
, our supported employment social enterprise.

About the role

You will lead the day‑to‑day delivery of Green Care, working across Dorset to provide garden maintenance and outdoor services while supporting young people aged 16–24, particularly those with SEND or other barriers to employment.

This is a hands‑on, people‑focused role that combines practical outdoor work with supervision, coaching, and service delivery. You will lead small teams on site, supporting young people to develop confidence, independence, and work‑readiness, while ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard.

You will manage day‑to‑day delivery in collaboration with colleagues and play a key role in maintaining service quality, building positive relationships with customers, and supporting the ongoing growth and sustainability of Green Care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a small team delivering garden maintenance and outdoor work across a range of sites
  • Providing day‑to‑day supervision, guidance, and practical support on site
  • Supporting young people in placements to build confidence, independence, and work‑readiness
  • Planning and organising work in collaboration with colleagues
  • Ensuring work is completed to a high standard and meets customer expectations
  • Maintaining safe working practices, including the use of tools and equipment
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with customers and partners
  • Supporting the ongoing development and growth of the Green Care service

About you

We’re interested in how you work, not just what you’ve done. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, has strong people skills, and is interested in supporting others to develop and succeed.

You’ll be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to support and encourage others
  • Confidence working in a practical, hands‑on environment
  • The ability to organise work and manage day‑to‑day priorities
  • A positive, patient, and adaptable approach
  • The ability to build good working relationships with a range of people
  • Reliability, good judgement, and a commitment to safe working practices

Experience of working with young people, outdoor work, or team supervision would be beneficial, but is not essential.

We welcome applications from people with transferable skills
, including those from backgrounds such as gardening, landscaping, grounds maintenance, youth work, sports coaching or activity leadership, care or support work, coaching, or teaching support roles. We will support you to develop the knowledge and skills needed for the role.

You’ll need:

  • A full driving licence
  • Flexibility to work outdoors in different weather conditions
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends if required

Why work for Dorset Community Action?

  • Meaningful, place‑based work with visible impact in local communities
  • A supportive charity environment with values at its core
  • The opportunity to develop skills in supported employment and service delivery within a growing social enterprise
  • A covering letter explaining how your skills and experience meet the requirements of the role

Applications should be sent by email to jobs@ or by post to:
