About the role

As a Social Worker within our Carers Team, you’ll play an essential role in supporting unpaid carers and the people they care for. You’ll manage your own diverse caseload, applying person‑centred, strengths‑based practice to help individuals make informed decisions and achieve meaningful outcomes. Your work will span Care Act assessments, hospital discharge planning, safeguarding enquiries, Mental Capacity Act assessments, and the development of tailored care and support plans.

You will work confidently within legal and policy frameworks—including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, Human Rights and Equalities legislation—ensuring every intervention is lawful, proportionate and focused on maximising independence and reducing risk. In this role, you’ll build effective relationships with service users, carers, families and partner organisations, working collaboratively to deliver safe, timely and creative solutions.

You will respond to referrals, assess levels of urgency, and take appropriate action, including in emergency situations to protect vulnerable adults or children. You’ll maintain accurate case notes, prepare professional reports (including court documentation where required), and contribute to multidisciplinary decision making around Continuing Health Care, Section 117 aftercare and Human Rights assessments. As part of a supportive and reflective team, you’ll actively participate in supervision, performance development and service improvement activities, ensuring your practice remains informed, current and aligned with our commitment to high quality social work.

About

the team

The Carers Team supports Haringey in meeting its statutory duties around the assessment, review and ongoing support of unpaid carers. This fast paced, dedicated team plays a vital role in delivering the Council’s commitment to improving outcomes for carers, as set out in the Haringey Carers Strategy 2025–28. Working collaboratively with partners, residents and wider Adult Social Care services, the team will help ensure unpaid carers receive timely, meaningful support that recognises their contribution and enhances their well‑being.

About

you

As a qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration, you’ll bring experience of working with unpaid carers. You’ll have strong assessment skills, the ability to formulate person‑centred carers support plans, and a sound understanding of the legislation that shapes practice—such as the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and associated statutory frameworks. We’re looking for someone who can apply social work methods that promote positive change and independence, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports, respond to enquiries, and present complex information when required.

You’ll have the confidence to work with a range of people and situations, demonstrating cultural awareness, analytical thinking, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in IT and a commitment to maintaining up to date professional knowledge are essential.
