Housing Solutions Officer

We are currently looking for an experienced Housing Solutions Officer to join a busy Housing Needs service. The role will focus on assessing homelessness applications, making statutory decisions and preventing and relieving homelessness in accordance with Parts VI and VII of the Housing Act 1996.
The successful candidate will manage complex homelessness cases with a high degree of autonomy, including decisions around statutory duties and Private Rented Sector offers.

The Role

· Assessing homelessness applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.

· Completing detailed investigations and making legally compliant homelessness decisions.

· Assessing Housing Register applications in accordance with Part VI.

· Developing and delivering prevention and relief options for households at risk of homelessness.

· Making appropriate Private Rented Sector offers to reduce reliance on temporary accommodation.

· Making decisions regarding the ending and discharge of statutory homelessness duties.

· Preparing statutory decision letters, legal documentation and reports.

· Responding to enquiries from applicants, solicitors, advocates and partner agencies.

· Supporting junior officers with complex cases, legislation and decision making.

· Working with Adult Social Care, Children's Services and other partners on complex cases.

Key Requirements

· Significant experience within Housing Options, Housing Solutions or Homelessness Assessment.

· Strong working knowledge of Parts VI and VII of the Housing Act 1996.

· Experience completing complex homelessness assessments and making statutory decisions.

· Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, case law and statutory guidance.

· Experience drafting legally robust homelessness decision letters.

· Experience preventing and relieving homelessness through a range of housing options.

· Experience making decisions around ending statutory duties and Private Rented Sector offers.

· Knowledge of associated legislation including the Children Act and mental health legislation.
