Basic DBS Required We are currently recruiting for an experienced Emergency Housing Officer to join a busy Local Authority Housing Service in Wembley on an ongoing temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a housing professional with strong emergency accommodation experience and extensive knowledge of homelessness legislation, housing systems, and customer-focused service delivery. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day management of emergency accommodation placements, working with vulnerable households experiencing housing crises and ensuring accommodation resources are utilised effectively.
Key Responsibilities Arrange and manage placements into emergency accommodation for households in urgent housing need. Create and manage accommodation bookings using the NEC housing management system. Set up and close rent accounts and maintain accurate accommodation records. Create and manage property records within the system. Verify occupancy of emergency accommodation units. Manage cancellations, transfers, and movements of households to maximise utilisation of available accommodation.
Support vulnerable residents by providing housing advice and assistance. Work closely with Housing Benefits teams to ensure maximum benefit uptake. Liaise with landlords, hotels, hostels, and accommodation providers to maintain positive working relationships. Process landlord invoices accurately and in line with council financial procedures. Ensure all records, correspondence, and case notes are maintained to a high standard. Essential Systems Knowledge Candidates must have strong working knowledge and recent experience of using: NEC Housing System Creating placements Setting up rent accounts Opening and closing bookings Creating and managing properties CRM Systems Locata Applications will only be considered from candidates with excellent practical experience using these systems.
Essential Knowledge & Experience Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation and housing law. Experience producing and managing legal housing documentation, including:
Section 188 accommodation duties Section 193 housing duties Licence Agreements Non-Secure Tenancies Understanding of Housing Benefit regulations, welfare reform, and accommodation affordability. Knowledge of homelessness and housing issues affecting Local Authority residents. Experience working with vulnerable households facing housing crises. Experience providing housing advice and assistance within a customer-facing environment. Strong background in negotiation, advocacy, mediation, and managing challenging situations.
Experience managing customer expectations in a fast-paced service environment. Essential Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong command of English. High levels of empathy, patience, and professionalism when supporting vulnerable residents. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Proficient IT skills and confidence working across multiple systems simultaneously. Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills. Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
