Position: Bank Counsellor - Bereavement Service (Allocation Coordinator)
Location: Greater London

Salary:
AfC Band 6, £25.69 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)

Bank contract (NB:
Hours offered on an as required basis, up to a maximum of 18 hours weekly, split over 5 sessions, as required, with no guaranteed or minimum hours)

This is a bank role within Royal Trinity Hospice’s Bereavement Service, supporting the safe, effective and timely coordination of counselling allocation and related administration for families, friends and patients, including young adults and children, before and after bereavement. The postholder will act as a key point of contact for waiting list queries, support holding calls, coordinate allocation to counsellors based on assessed need, and provide administrative support to the counselling and bereavement service.

Overall

purpose of the role
  • Provide counselling administration for counselling caseloads for families, friends and Royal Trinity Hospice patients, including young adults and children, pre- and post-bereavement.
  • Act as the first point of contact for waiting list queries and undertake holding calls, primarily using virtual methods including video platforms and telephone.
  • Coordinate the allocation of clients to counsellors based on the formulation of need and Royal Trinity Hospice assessment frameworks.
  • Manage service caseloads and waiting lists, ensuring accurate records and timely escalation of concerns, risks or safeguarding issues.
  • Provide psychosocial education to clients about coping skills, hospice and palliative care, and supporting children and young people.
  • Lead monthly Walk and Talk sessions and support delivery of psychoeducation and service resources where required.
  • Provide back-up support for counselling assessments and associated administration when required.
  • Support the Head of Living Well with recruitment and training of new Bereavement Service volunteers.
  • Review and maintain literature relating to the counselling and bereavement service.
  • Work as a casual bank worker on an as-required basis, delivering up to two client assessments and associated administration per four-hour session where required.
Skills and experience required
  • Postgraduate qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy.
  • Registration with UKCP, BACP or an equivalent professional body, with evidence of continuing professional development and professional supervision.
  • Counselling experience, including understanding of clinical assessments, formulation, therapeutic interventions and models of grief work.
  • Experience of working with people affected by loss, grief, anxiety, depression, death, dying and bereavement.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information clearly, compassionately and professionally.
  • Ability to work independently, manage own workload, prioritise effectively and maintain accurate written and electronic records.
  • Good computer literacy, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, electronic notes systems, telephone and video call platforms.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, safeguarding adults and children, confidentiality, data protection, and relevant legislation and professional ethical frameworks.

  • Ability to work flexibly as a bank worker, use suitable IT equipment for remote interventions, and travel for work on an ad hoc basis if required.
