A support worker in government-supported accommodation helps residents live safely and independently. Their role includes providing practical and emotional support with everyday tasks such as budgeting, cooking, cleaning, appointments and managing accommodation. They encourage residents to develop life skills and work towards personal goals, such as finding employment or moving into independent housing. Support workers also monitor wellbeing, identify safeguarding concerns, manage risks and respond appropriately to incidents.
They keep accurate records and work with other professionals, including housing officers, social workers and healthcare services. Most importantly, they promote residents’ independence, dignity, safety and wellbeing while providing guidance and encouragement
