Hillingdon Youth Justice service’s vision is “To be a fair, inclusive, child-first youth justice service that empowers every young person to thrive, supports victims of crime, and repairs harm within safer, stronger communities.”

A Restorative Justice officer works with both the children who have caused harm and those who have been harmed to repair and rebuild relationships in a respectful and empowering way.

The post holder will be able to work creatively with children to design and facilitate bespoke reparation projects that benefit the local community as well as being key to the delivery of Restorative Justice interventions. You will work with the children using restorative approaches to have reflective discussions about their actions, build empathy and accountability to build on their strengths and make positive choices.

The role will involve working with both the children within the service and those harmed by criminal activity to explore restorative outcomes and support the facilitation of these.

The post holder will also support victims of crime to have their needs met, to feel empowered and to have their rights upheld as per the Victims Code.

About You
  • You will be passionate about empowering children, their families and those harmed by crime.
  • You will be committed to embedding restorative practices within the Youth Justice service and wider partner organisations.
  • You will have excellent communication skills with an ability to engage both children and those harmed by criminal activity with your empathetic and patient approach.
  • You will be highly organised and able to balance competing demands.
  • You will have the ability to work flexibly and independently.
  • You will be prepared to work Tuesday to Saturdays and the occasional after hours meeting or visit.
  • You will be able to build strong partnerships with community partners.
