Position: Homelessness Prevention Officer / Housing Officer - Local Authority
Homelessness Prevention Officer Job Type: Full-time, Interim

Location:

Halifax, HX1 Salary: £13.59 PAYE per hour / £19.20 via Umbrella We are seeking a dedicated Homelessness Prevention Officer to join our Housing Options team. This role is crucial in providing frontline support and advice to households to prevent and relieve homelessness and to secure and maintain tenancies. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of homelessness legislation and a strong commitment to helping vulnerable populations.

Day-to-day of the role:
Interview customers who present as homeless or in housing need, providing specific advice and information on homelessness prevention, securing accommodation, and available help. Assess the needs of customers believed to be eligible and homeless, and develop fit-for-purpose personal housing plans. Produce and issue necessary written documentation, such as plans and decision letters. Carry a caseload of clients and undertake comprehensive homelessness prevention work, including negotiating with landlords, parents, and advocating with various organisations and agencies.

Develop relationships with colleagues, partner agencies, housing providers, voluntary agencies, and community groups to broaden knowledge of homelessness services and build effective referral routes. Ensure close liaison, cooperation, and information exchange with all stakeholders to ensure better outcomes for those at risk of homelessness. Required Skills &

Qualifications:

Knowledge of homelessness legislation, particularly the duties contained within Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. Experience in assessing housing needs, developing Personalised Housing Plans, and working proactively with households and partner agencies to prevent and relieve homelessness. Ability to handle a caseload effectively and undertake hands-on homelessness prevention work. Strong negotiation and advocacy skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building effective relationships and liaising with a diverse range of individuals and organisations. Benefits:
