Overview

We are seeking an experienced Java Software Engineer to join the Digital Loyalty & Rewards platform within Digital Channels. In this role, you will develop and enhance backend services that power key customer loyalty experiences, working within an API focused team to build robust, scalable services using Java, Spring Boot and associated technologies. You’ll collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to design, implement and optimise RESTful APIs, support integration across digital journeys, and contribute to continuous improvement, performance, and operational excellence across the platform.

To be successful in this role, you should have experience in:

  • Java (11/17/23) & REST API Engineering– Spring Boot, API standards, secure coding.
  • Cloud‑native deployments on aPaaS (Open Shift / Red Hat)– containerization, CI/CD, Git Lab/Jenkins, RHEL ecosystem.
  • Risk & Controls– API security, cert/cipher compliance, vulnerability & ORAC alignment.

Some other highly valued skills include:

  • Service Mesh– Istio/Envoy patterns, mesh migrations.
  • Event‑Driven / Messaging– Kafka-based integrations.
  • Dev Ops & Git Ops Automation– Git Lab pipelines, Jenkins, Git Ops, Open Shift tooling.

This role is based in our Eagle Labs in London.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities
  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
