Our systems power web sites, clinics across the UK,secureanalyticsand research systems,pipelines thatprocesshighly sensitivehealthand genetic data, and we are continuing to grow our engineering capability to support this ambition.

We are hiring a Software Engineer to join our Researcher Acquisition squad
. This is a cross-functional squad, focused on our community of world class health researchers. Working closely with our access governance & data teams, we support researchers on their journey in learning about Our Future Health, joining the program and gaining access to the right data to run good quality studies in our trusted research environment.

Our core tech-stack includes Ruby on Rails, PostgresSQL
, Terraform (IaC), running in Azure (
Kubernetes and Azure App Service
). Additionally we will be integrating some of our services with our SaaS services, so experience with 3rd party APIs, Webhooks or some level of event driven back end processing would be a great bonus.

Our engineers are full-stack, handling frontend, backend and infrastructure in a total ownership model - squads build and run it.

This role will be fully hybrid with the expectation we get together in our Holborn, London office at least once per month.

Technical Skills
  • Knowledge and experience of building cloud-hosted applications, using Ruby on Rails, in a start up-, public service-, or charitable setting
  • Experience with background job processing frameworks (e.g. Sidekiq) and asynchronous workflows
  • Additional experience with 3rd party API integration, Webhooks and event driven backend services would be a nice to have
  • Prior experience with Azure (ideally), AWS or GCP
  • Comfortable working with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform
  • Experience with Kubernetes is a plus
  • Knowledge of good data modelling and design patterns; in-depth knowledge of relational databases (e.g. Postgre

    SQL) and familiarity other types of data store (blob, document, graph)
  • Good experience in using modern, agile development practices like code review, TDD, CI/CD and pairing using tools like Git and Git Hub
  • Experience of operationally managing software components once live, including; observability, logging, metrics, error reporting, debugging and live incident management
  • Experience of working with sensitive personal data.

  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders and audiences outside your own team
  • Experience working in small, growingorganisationswith a high degree of ambiguity, where flexibility is valued

  • Comfortable in taking part in - and sometimes facilitating technical discussions
